No matter what anyone says, there will be no power cuts for ten to twelve hours in the coming weeks, assures the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Janaka Ratnayake.

He said the power outage lasted for five and a half hours during the past two days as not a single fuel-fired power plant could be activated, but with the help of rains it was possible to provide as much power as possible from hydro and wind plants.
Chairman of the PUCSL said that with the rains received 45 percent of the hydro power and with the help of wind and small scale hydro power plants it was possible to provide 60 percent of the electricity.

He also emphasized that there would be no power cuts on Vesak Poya day.

By now a ship of crude oil has arrived but the required amount has not been paid yet. In the future when the required amount is paid for it the power plants will also receive fuel including diesel. Also, due to the renovation of the coal power plant, it is idle at the moment but it will be started generation by May 22-23. Due to heavy rains in the future, we will be able to generate 60 percent of the hydro power. People do not need to have undue fear of austerity .
