Trade unions representing public service have sent a letter to the President demanding a salaray hike immediately and have threatened that they will launch a massive strike if the the demands are neglected.
The trade union federation, which is sending this letter informing about the non-payment of salaries and allowances of Rs. 16,000 in the budget, points out that 1.5 million public servants and 6 millions of their dependents are facing a serious crisis with this budget.
If justice is not done in this situation, the government should take responsibility for the damage caused to the country by the trade union struggle that it is calling without further notice, said its national organizer BAP Basnayake on behalf of the Federation of Public Officers Trade Unions has informed the President in his signed letter.
