Despite among the all speculations imprisoned Ranjan Ramanayake will be get a presidential pardon today , is reported that he was not among the prisoners released on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day.
A presidential pardon was granted to 197 prisoners this morning in accordance with the powers vested in the President by Article 34 of the Constitution on the occasion of National Independence Day. Many, including the Leader of the Opposition, expected Ranjan Ramanayake to be among the prisoners.
A group of artists also sent a message to the President in the hands of Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi, who is siad to be a closest associate to the president to release him. SLPP MP Geetha Kumarasinghe was also among those artists.
However, Ranjan Ramanayake was not among the prisoners who were released from prison this morning.
