The exclusive room reserved for the use of the Executive President at the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital has been opened for the treatment of the general public from today (March 24).
The Ministry of Health and the hospital administration jointly took this decision following instructions from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, built in 1984 with grant aid from the Japanese Government, was originally designed with a capacity of 1,000 beds. As part of that plan, a special room, numbered 1001, was also added for the personal use of the President.
Although the room has been used only on very limited occasions during the 42 years since the hospital was established, it has been maintained over the years in anticipation of a President’s visit.
From today, this special room will be made available for general patients receiving treatment at the hospital.
