President Anura Meets Police Chiefs of Western & Southern Provinces

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has assured that the government will take strong measures to eliminate organized crime and drug abuse in the Western and south Provinces. He also emphasized the need to introduce new legislation to support these efforts.

The President made these remarks during a special discussion held today (18) at the Presidential Secretariat with police chiefs of the Western and south Provinces.

Addressing the gathering, President Dissanayake highlighted that upholding the rule of law is a prime responsibility of the Police Department. He stressed that a just society cannot be built in Sri Lanka without ensuring the supremacy of the law.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister and Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Ravi Seneviratne, Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, and several senior police officers of the Western Province.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) stated that the government is committed to providing all necessary facilities to the police to strengthen law enforcement and protect society from the growing threats of crime and drugs.
