Funeral of a powerful and well-known person who is believed to have died due to Covid infection took place has become a topic in a yesterday cabinet meeting and the President has advice Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to look into the matter whether there was any violation, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana told the media today. Hr further said The President had instructed the Minister of Health to take action if there is any violation of health guidelines.
Responding to a question raised by a journalist at the weekly Cabinet media briefing the Minister said that he was saddened that such a violation of health laws had taken place during the last rites of this deceased public figure.
Speaking further Minister Ramesh Pathirana stated that more than 10 million people in the country have been vaccinated against Covid and about 2 million of them have received both doses. The Minister said that among the deaths due to Covid were people over 60 years of age and those who had not yet been vaccinated, adding that the government was committed to expeditious vaccination.
He also said that although there has been a situation where all the deaths in the houses have been subjected to PCR examination in the recent past, the number of Covid deaths in the houses has come down drastically and background has been created for the Grama Niladhari of the area to take a final decision in this regard.
