Sources at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital confirmed that the mother of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is still receiving treatment at Ward 18 of the hospital.
Amid rumors circulating on social media that the President’s mother had been airlifted from Anuradhapura Hospital to Lanka Hospitals in Colombo, the Anuradhapura Hospital clarified the situation when inquired by Lankasara.
This incident has fostered a strong sense of trust in the government’s healthcare system and deepened public appreciation for the humility and authenticity of the nation’s Executive President.
President Dissanayake visited his mother at the Anuradhapura Hospital last Friday after meeting the chief prelate of the Malwatte Chapter in Kandy. His visit to the hospital was unannounced, and he saw his mother as an ordinary citizen, without any prior arrangements or entourage. The visit was inadvertently recorded on a hospital employee’s phone, sparking a wave of national admiration.
“I couldn’t believe it when the President walked through the ward alone, without any security. He spoke with his mother, asked me about her condition, and then went on to talk with other patients in the ward. He left without causing any inconvenience. It was an experience I never imagined in my life,” said a nurse, whose comment went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, a video of a helicopter landing at Lanka Hospitals in Colombo had led to speculation on social media that the President’s mother had been transferred there. However, the hospital has confirmed that this is not true.
