The president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has agreed to form an all-party government following the resignation of all cabinet ministers, including the prime minister. Sources also said that he has inform his position with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and SLPP seniors.
Accordingly the President has informed the government party leaders in writing that he, as the Executive President, will in principle agree to form an all party government with the participation of all political parties represented in the Parliament.
President Rajapaksa has summoned a special discussion on Friday (28th) morning to discuss the matters related to forming of the all party government, resignation of the present Prime Minister and the Cabinet as well as the responsibilities and procedures to be followed. Sources further confirmed that the meeting will be held on Friday morning at the President’s House.
Party leaders who are now working independently have also been invited biy the President.
The President’s letter further states that as a solution to the current social and economic crisis in the country, an all party government should be formed with the participation of all the political parties represented in Parliament. Many parties and public organizations have also made demands.
