The gunman responsible for the mass shooting at a university in Prague, David Kozak, confessed to an earlier double murder in his suicide note, according to Czech police.
The note, found in Kozak’s home, revealed he shot dead a man and his baby daughter in a forest near the city on 15th of December, six days before the university attack. Police had Kozak on a list of 4,000 suspects for the double murder, and police expressed regret that they were unable to reach him earlier for questioning.
Kozak, a 24-year-old history student, also killed his father, bringing the total number of victims to 17. The university shooting, which occurred on last Thursday (21), resulted in 14 deaths and 25 injuries. Kozak killed himself after being surrounded by armed police. Police have not disclosed the motive for the university shooting, and the investigation is ongoing. The university shooting is the worst mass shooting in Czech history.
Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan has called on mayors to cancel New Year’s fireworks displays as a gesture of peace for those traumatized by the massacre.
