A police constable from the Welikanda Police Station in Polonnaruwa was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in his room yesterday (29) night.
The deceased, identified as Police Sergeant Mahmul Mohammadu Hanifa, resided at No. 25, Main Road, Eraur 02, Valachchena. He was reportedly on police mobile duty on the night of his death and was found deceased in his room at the conclusion of his shift.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Sudath Asmadala, an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of Hanifa’s death.
Both on-site inquiries and a post-mortem examination are scheduled to be conducted today (30).
