The Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University, Senior Professor M.D. Lamawamsa has travelled abroad on nine occasions using state funds since August 2021, after he was appointed the Vice Chancellor of the University.
It has been learned that he has been warned by the Presidential Secretariat regarding his foreign trips, while strict discipline is being implemented regarding the foreign trips of government officials. One such foreign trip that he was to undertake has been cancelled.
Before becoming the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Lamaavamsa served as Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Russia during the tenure of the Gotabaya Rajapaksa government.
At that time, Prof. Lamamwamsa had completed 30 years of service at the University of Peradeniya and had also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
