Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala informed Parliament today (19) that 1,009 bottles of foreign liquor were seized during a search of Deshabandhu Tennakoon’s residence in Hokandara yesterday.
The minister stated that the seized stock included 795 bottles of foreign liquor and 214 bottles of wine. He added that a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had gone to the Matara Magistrate’s Court to present the facts regarding the confiscation of these items.
His statement was as follows:
“Yesterday, the Criminal Investigation Department searched the house located at No. 56/A, Seventh Lane, Gangani Garden, Hokandara. During the search, the police seized 1,009 bottles of liquor, comprising 795 bottles of foreign liquor and 214 bottles of wine.
Additionally, the police recovered a pistol, believed to be the personal firearm of Mr. Tennakoon. Two Apple phones were also seized, which we believe contain a significant amount of information.
We will continue to report the findings to the court as the investigation progresses. Further investigations into this matter are ongoing,” Minister Wijepala said.
