As many as 42 opposition parliamentarians have signed the no-confidence motion against the Minister of Health Pavithra Devi Wanniarachchi alleging that she has failed to fulfill her responsibilities in controlling the Corona disaster.

It has been handed over to the Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the Samagi Janabalawegaya Sajith Premadasa to obtain signatures from members of other opposition parties.

Accordingly, the Samagi Jana Balawega plans to hand over the no-confidence motion to the Speaker within the next week after obtaining signatures from all members of the Opposition.

However, a group of opposition MPs are of the opinion that a no-confidence motion against the Minister of Health is unnecessary and should not be taken up at this time. The opposition MPs say that the no-confidence motion will provide an opportunity to cover up the government’s wrongdoings.

Several MPs told Lankasara that although they had expressed their opposition to the no-confidence motion, they had signed in favour of it due to a collective decision taken by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya faction.
