The government is currently working to secure a simple majority to pass the resolution removing the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Janaka Ratnayake.
It has been reported that the President turned down requests by Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Bandula Gunawardena, and Keheliya Rambukwella to travel abroad during a cabinet meeting held recently, and it was notified that all the MPs and Deputy Ministers of the ruling party should be in Parliament on the 24th.
The United Front has agreed to vote in favour of the motion to remove the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission. However, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and opposition groups that have separated from the government are poised to vote against it.
