With the reports of corona from the Peliyagoda fish market, suspicion has arisen among the people about the consumption of fish. However, the head of the Epidemiology Unit Dr. Sudath Samaraweera has stated that there is no need to refrain from consuming fish.

Instead he has asked the public to wash their hands thoroughly after touching raw fish. “We know that the Covid 19 virus can persist in many surfaces for some time. Information has been found about it. But we still do not know for sure how far the virus can spread from an infected person if it is found on the surface of fish”.

“But there is no need to avoid eating fish.If the fish is cleaned in any way, if it is touched by a hand, then the hands should be washed thoroughly. We can then prevent the possible spread of the covid virus” he said. There have been reports that the consumption of fish has drastically reduced following a large number of persons from the Peliyagoda Fish Market testing positive for Covid 19.
