The no-confidence motion targeting Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was met with defeat as it failed to secure a majority of votes.
The voting results indicated that 73 votes were cast in favor of the resolution, while 103 votes were against it. Consequently, the no-confidence motion was defeated with a substantial margin of 30 votes.
Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena, on behalf of the opposition, presented the no-confidence motion, which led to a three-day debate on the matter.
The Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella during the final speech exhibited impulsive behavior, exclaiming, “I’m sitting there… They want to catch me and beat me.” This unscripted outburst added an unexpected twist to the proceedings.
