For his third consecutive term, Narendra Modi was sworn in as the prime minister of India at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India. After India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi was only the second Indian leader to gain the mandate to rule the country for a third term after the independence.
Modi was given an oath on the constitution by President Droupadi Murmu.
Dressed in a white kurta and blue jacket, Prime Minister Modi, flanked by officials from his party Bharathiya Janatha Party as well as leaders of his coalition partners, vowed to protect India’s constitution.
A large number of supporters gathered at the venue and when Modi was attending he bowed his head towards the crowd and paid his respect. Head of state including President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe; President of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu; Vice-President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif; Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina; Prime Minister of Mauritius and several other leaders also attended.
Following taking office of the Prime Minister his ministers also took oaths. BJP leaders Dr S Jaishankar, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan took oath as Union Ministers.
