Former Parliamentarian and former Minister Nandana Gunathilaka has passed away at the age of 64. He was receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital due to illness at the time of his demise.
A onetime frontline member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Gunathilaka represented the Kalutara District in Parliament from the year 2000. He also contested the 1999 Presidential Election, securing over 334,000 votes and finishing as the third-highest candidate.
Gunathilaka joined the JVP in 1982 and later served as the party’s Administrative Secretary. In subsequent years, he left the JVP and went on to support the United National Party (UNP) .
He was an old boy of Panadura Sri Sumangala College.
