State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal, has sent a letter to the President requesting the rest of the responsibilities under purview of his ministry too be transferred to the newly formed Cabinet Ministry, sources said. The letter has been sent following significant responsibilities gazetted under Ministry of Development coordination and Monitoring where Minister Namal Rajapaksa was sworn in as the minister.
Under the purview of the new Ministry, Minister Namal will be responsible for the formulation of government policies related to the supervision of a number of development projects, including the supervision of a number of large scale projects currently being planned and ongoing in the country, from small scale rural projects related to development.
Although Mr Cabraal was recognized as an experienced professional in the capital markets during his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government, he was not granted the institutional framework relevant to this scope. Sources say that the crisis has arisen due to a dispute with Secretary to the President Dr. PB Jayasundara Cabraal.
