A convicted murderer who had committed a murder in the Dehiattakandiya area, Ampara and has been absconding since 2009 has been arrested by the Police in the Kocchikade, Wadiyawatta, Koswatta area recently.
The man arrested was a 70-year-old former resident of Dehiattakandiya, Pussalawinna, Maawanaagama area.
According to the Police in 2004 the man was accused of killing a man identified as D.G Rankira and causing grievous harm to another identified as D.G Jayasena. The man has been absconding and on September 27, 2009 the Ampara High Court had issued a warrant for his arrest. Court proceedings had carried on in his absence and he was convicted on November 15, 2011 for murder.
He was only arrested this week after a tip off received by the Police. The magistrate ordered him to be presented to the Negombo Courts and then handed over to the Ampara Prison.
