A number of mothers who had complained to the police that Dr. Shafi, a doctor at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, who had been accused of forcibly performing steralization surgeries on them have given birth.
More than 800 mothers had lodged complaints against the doctor and 268 of the complaints have been investigated, police said.
It is learned that out of these 268 mothers, about 10 mothers have given birth to children since then and have stated to the police that further investigations are not necessary.
Nearly 650 more complaints are to be investigated and it has been unofficially reported that a number of mothers among them have also since had babies.
