In the face of economic instability and uncertainty about their prospects, 32 Sri Lankans approximately take to wings in search of greener pastures elsewhere on the globe.
The Sunday Times newspaper citing Central Bank external sector data, states that daily, 775 potential job seekers leave the shores of Sri Lanka for foreign employment.
The figure has quadrupled compared to the first 181 days of the corresponding years, according to the report.
This data included by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka are only on those who left the country through legal channels. It further indicated that these figures would drastically increase if they take a proper census of the illegal emigrants to Australia, Europe and South India.
Accordingly, this year alone, more than 141,000 people have left the country for foreign destinations in search of employment
