The government is incessantly facing people’s wrath owing to its inability to provide basic requirements without interruption.

Fuel and gas are in short supply, and the government has decided to supply much-needed gasoline only to run the essential services until July 10.

The country is virtually grinding to a halt amidst chaos, confusion and widespread protests.

In the meantime, several ministers left for Qatar and Russia to explore the possibility of purchasing fuel on easy terms against a backdrop where foreign banks have refused to honour the letters of credit opened by local banks.

Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had left for Qatar Doha on a Qatar Airways flight QR-655 at 08.15 pm last night (27), accompanied by Environment Minister Nasir Ahamed.

The objective of their visit is to find a regular fuel supplier.

In addition, Minister Susil Premajayantha also left for Paris and Moscow via Dubai this morning (28)

The Emirates flight EK-649 carrying Premajayanth departed from Katunayake Airport at 3.15 am today (28).

Following his visit to France, Minister Susil Premajayantha and former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dr Saman Weerasinghe will leave for Moscow, Russia, on July 3 to find solutions to the fuel crisis plaguing Sri Lanka.

What is significant is that ministers who leave the country for official matters have chosen to do so without media shows and much drama at the airport. The Airport VIP lounge remains closed, and all the passengers should use the passenger channels for entry and departure.
