Minister Vijitha Herath has proposed that the Chinese government consider installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Sri Lanka as a Chinese donation. The proposal comes as Sri Lanka plans to import electric vehicles in large quantities from the global automobile market, including China.
The Minister made this request during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning (29). The Chinese Ambassador responded positively to the proposal and agreed to convey it to the Chinese government.
During the discussion, Minister Herath noted that the initiative would be a significant step forward, especially as the Sri Lankan government also plans to import more electric buses in the future.
The Minister further informed that Sri Lanka expects immediate assistance from the Chinese government to rebuild railway lines and bridges damaged by the recent disaster.
Ambassador Qi Zhenhong agreed to promptly draw the attention of the Chinese government to this request.
Additionally, the Ambassador stated that he hopes to assess the damage caused in Sri Lanka by Cyclone “Ditta” and discuss with the Chinese government the assistance that can be provided in all relevant areas.
