The Minister of Public Security has directed the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to accelerate investigations into seven controversial incidents from past governments, including the Central Bank bond scam and the Easter Sunday attacks.
According to Police Spokesperson DIG Nihal Talduwa, the Ministry of Public Security has instructed the Acting IGP to focus on several important investigations and to complete them quickly.
The police will now work to speed up investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks, the Central Bank bond fraud, the death of business leader Dinesh Schaffter, and the sudden disappearance of former Vice-Chancellor of Kelaniya University, Professor Ravindranath Subramaniam. The recent shooting at the W15 Hotel in Weligama will also be investigated.
In addition, the IGP has been instructed to look into the disappearance of Lalith Kumar and Kugan Muruganandan in Jaffna in 2011, as well as the abduction and murder of Dharmaratnam Sivaram in 2005.
“The Ministry of Public Security has requested a quick report on the progress of these investigations,” said the Police Media Spokesperson.
