Millions worth of Medical aid and food relief for Kandy Donation of medicines worth 2.1 million donations on rupees, which were essential for the treatments of the surgical department of the Kandy National Hospital, and distribution of dry food worth 5 million rupees among 500 families who are in need due to the economic crisis took place in Kandy recently. The donations were carried out by a group of philanthropists including Chief Lady monk of China’s Anfu temple Ven Dahon, Ms. Vibodhi Iddawela under the auspices of Malwathu Chapter’s committee member Doranagama Ratanapala Thera.
The event was held on 23rd of July at Malwathu Viharaya , Kandy under the chair of the Chief Prelate of Malwaththa chapter Most Ven Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera.
At the time when the Malwatu chief was informed about the implementation of some relief program for the people who are suffering severely due to the current economic crisis, Ven Chief Prelate has instructed the donors about the need for medical aid which are in severe shortage in Kandy National Hospital which is the main health care facility in the region.
The members of the Malwatu Chapter, the members of the Karaka Sangha, Thibbatuwave Medhankara, Mahawela Sri Ratanapala, Udagaldebokke Gunannada Ambatalawe Sarankara, Alutgama Somarathana, Kalugala Pemarathana, Panasal Godella Wimalarathana, Welivita Sarankara, Nugagolle Hemaloka Theras participated in this event.
Dr. Iresha Fernando, Director of Kandy National Hospital, said that annually about three hundred thousand people receive treatment at the Kandy National Hospital and about three million people receive treatment at the clinics.
