During the event, the Sinhala and Tamil New Year message from the President of Sri Lanka was delivered in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

In a gesture of solidarity, SLGTTIOBA also handed over a financial donation of A$12,000 to support relief efforts following the devastation caused by Cyclone “Ditwah.

The festival featured a vibrant array of traditional customs and rituals, providing a valuable opportunity for Sri Lankans living in Melbourne and surrounding areas to come together and celebrate their cultural heritage, while also showcasing Sri Lankan traditions to international visitors.

More than 10,000 people attended the colourful celebrations, making it one of the largest Sinhala and Tamil New Year events held outside Sri Lanka.
