Medical Specialists Demand Action Against Online False Accusations

The Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) has expressed its concern over the spate of false accusations levelled against medical professionals and public health institutions on social media. These accusations are aimed at creating a negative impression among the general public about the publicly-funded healthcare system that provides good care amid severe hardships.

In a press release issued today (16), the AMS called on the relevant authorities to take action under existing regulations to stop this unacceptable behavior. The AMS stated that such behavior is bringing disrepute to medical professionals and institutions who work hard under difficult conditions to provide quality healthcare services to the public.

The most recent victim of these attacks is the Cardiology Department of the Kalutara Teaching Hospital. The unit, which consists of three cardiologists and other dedicated support staff who perform their duties properly, have been serving the people of Kalutara area 24 hours a day since 2021. The announcement also states that the service has been provided under strict quality control measures.

The AMS believes that taking relevant measures against these smears will help to strengthen the trust of the general public in the public health institutions that are trying to break the false claims of irresponsible people. The association also indicated that it will continue to work tirelessly to provide quality healthcare services to people across the country, despite such attacks.
