The Matara Magistrate’s Court has issued an open warrant for the arrest of suspended IGP Deshabandhu Tennakoon.
The warrant was issued on February 28th, and Tennakoon has been absconding for 12 days since then.

Difference Between a Judicial Warrant and an Open Warrant
1. Judicial Warrant:
An arrest warrant is a court order issued when there is sufficient evidence that a person has committed a crime. It authorizes the police to locate and arrest the individual and present them before the court.
A search warrant is a court order permitting law enforcement to search a house, vehicle, or other premises. It is typically used in criminal investigations and must be executed within the conditions specified in the warrant.
2. Open Warrant:
An open warrant is an arrest warrant that can be executed without limitations on time or place. It is issued when a person flees or ignores court orders.
Unlike a standard arrest warrant, an open warrant remains valid indefinitely until the person is apprehended.
