An underworld figure allegedly involved in several organized crimes, Manna Ramesh alias Ramesh Mihiranga, who was arrested in Dubai was brought to Sri Lanka this morning.
He was arrested while hiding in Dubai on red warrants issued by Interpol a few weeks ago. He was brought from Dubai by a special team of the Criminal Investigations Department.
This criminal gang member who operated from the Avissawella area is a suspect who has been accused of extorting money from businessmen in that area and nearby areas, threatening millionaire gem businessmen in areas like Ratnapura, Eheliyagoda, and extorting hundreds of thousands of rupees and committing murders.
Recently, it was reported that two people were killed by shooting at four people who were riding in a three-wheeler while attending a funeral in Thalduwa. It was recently reported that Ramesh had threatened the police officers involved in the operation after the death of one of Ramesh’s gang colleagues, Mahesh, in the police shooting.
Police sources stated that the person brought to Sri Lanka by the Criminal Investigation Department officials has been handed over to the Western Province Southern Division for further investigation.
