The Aguruwathota police have successfully apprehended the main suspect in the murder of a young mother and her infant daughter in Aguruvathota today (22) morning.
The suspect, who is the brother-in-law of the deceased young mother’s husband, had been evading authorities and was residing in the Aguruwathota Warakagoda area.
During the arrest operation, the suspect attempted to inflict self-harm by trying to stab his stomach with a pair of scissors, resulting in injuries. He has been taken to Kalutara Hospital for medical treatment and is now under police custody.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Horana Magistrate.
Aguruwathota police are investigating further into the incident.
