The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered the Government Analyst to conduct a DNA test on former English cricket commentator Brian Thomas, a business friend of the deceased Dinesh Schaffter.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya made this order based on the recommendations of the five-member expert committee of doctors in forensic medicine and in the medical field. This expert committee was appointed to probe and determine the cause or causes of entrepreneur Dinesh Schaffer’s death.

Two medical specialists from the committee, who appeared before the court, requested the court issue the relevant order as it was relevant in relation to the investigations into Schaffter’s mobile phone recordings and WhatsApp messages.

The panel, which comprises Prof. Asela Mendis, Prof. D.C.R. Perera, Prof. D.N.P. Fernando, Dr. Siva Subramaniam, and Dr. Rohan Ruwanpura, is examining and holding an inquiry to decide the actual cause of death for Dinesh Shafter.
