The Department of Census and Statistics says that the number of child births in Sri Lanka has been declined by 16858 in 2021 compared to 2020.
In the year 2020, the number of child births in Sri Lanka was 301,706 and the nuber has been decreased to in the year 2021, the number of births has decreased to 284,848, according to the data of the Department of Census and Statistics.
Accordingly the gross birth rate (per 1000 population) has decreased to 12.9 in the year 2021.
In the year 2020, 154068 male children were born while 147 638 female children were born.
145,045 male children and 139,803 female children were born in the year 2021.
