A Canadian court has sentenced a Mullaitivu man to life in prison after he was found guilty of beating his wife to death on a Canadian highway. The tragic incident occurred on September 23, 2019, with the main motive behind the crime attributed to the accused’s extramarital relationship with another woman.
After the murder, the accused began cohabiting with the woman with whom he had the affair.
In 2015, he had married Darshika Jeganathan, a resident of the Manipayi area in Jaffna, India, before the couple relocated to Canada.
The accused, identified as Sasikaran Thanapalasingham, was traveling in a bus with his wife when the severe assault occurred. Subsequently, the woman was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away during medical treatment.
The Canadian authorities arrested Thanapalasingham and presented him before the court, leading to his conviction and life imprisonment.
The attack took place on Morris Road in Ellesmere, Canada, and was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The prosecution relied on this camera footage and a medical report from the treating physician as key evidence in the case.
