The Editor of the Lankasara website was today summoned to the Computer Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigation Department to inquire about a report published by them on the Tamasha to be held utilising a large volume of funds by the Police Department to celebrate the 156th Police Day.

The Criminal Investigation Department had informed Lankasara Media Networks Private Company that they wanted to investigate the news published on the 23rd of August with the headline “Police are ready to dance while the country begs”. Accordingly, Mr Liyanarachchi was present at the Fort Criminal Investigation Department for a statement to be recorded relating to the investigation.

The officials questioned him about the sources and how he received this piece of information. He was also asked to give a statement about its publication.

Accordingly, the Editor told the CID that the website fully accepts the responsibility of publishing the news and has emphasised that it is not the appropriate time to spend chunks of money to celebrate the 156th Police Day in the backdrop of a severe economic crisis and when a programme is underway to limit government spending.

It has been pointed out that by conducting such a big ceremony, the entire police department, including the Inspector General of Police, has been brought into disrepute among the public
