Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse adjourned the session of the Parliament until 9:30 tomorrow (11) due to the absence of a quorum during the debate on the VAT Bill—a crucial tax legislation for the country.
MP Naleen Bandara Jayamaha raised concerns in Parliament, stating, “The government is stuck in the VAT case. Go ahead and see if there is a quorum. There are no members of the government in the parliament to save the government.”
The lack of quorum prompted the decision to adjourn the session. The debate on the VAT Bill is expected to resume tomorrow (11).
