The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has issued a strong warning against scams offering fake jobs in South Korea, and a new twist has emerged: allegations against the brother of Sri Lanka’s former Labour Minister, Manusha Nanayakara.s brother Thisara Nanayakkara. reveals that several others have been involved.
Reports suggest that Manusha’s brother is accused of involvement in fraudulent schemes, promising job opportunities under the E-8 visa category. These accusations have raised serious concerns, as the SLBFE continues to caution Sri Lankans about falling prey to such scams.
The Fake E-8 Visa Trap
The E-8 visa scam is based on false promises of short-term agricultural and fishing jobs in South Korea. However, SLBFE Chairman Kosala Wickramasinghe clarified that no such jobs are available because there are no agreements between the two countries for seasonal work under this category.
Despite these facts, individuals, including those connected to high-profile figures, have been accused of exploiting job seekers.
The Accusations Against Manusha’s Brother
Manusha Nanayakara, known for advocating legal overseas employment, now faces a scandal involving his own family. While details remain under investigation, these accusations highlight the dangers of trusting unofficial channels.
If proven true, this could undermine public trust in government initiatives for safe and legal migration.
SLBFE’s Commitment to Justice
The SLBFE has vowed to crack down on scams and hold perpetrators accountable. Chairman Kosala Wickramasinghe announced plans to repatriate Sri Lankans overstaying illegally in South Korea and to share their details with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for legal action.
These efforts aim to protect Sri Lanka’s reputation and maintain its employment quota in South Korea.
