Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella Seeks Bail from High Court

Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, currently remanded in connection with the importation of substandard immunoglobulin vaccine, has submitted a bail application to the Colombo High Court through legal representation. Rambukwella is appealing to the court for release on bail, subject to any conditions deemed appropriate by the judiciary.

In his bail application, Rambukwella expressed dissatisfaction with the decisions of Magistrate Maligakanda, asserting that the magistrate had denied bail on numerous occasions without reasonable justification. He contends that the refusal of bail lacks grounds and warrants reconsideration by the higher court.

The development follows the recent decision by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court, which ordered the remand of ten individuals, including Rambukwella, until March 28th, in connection with the aforementioned incident. Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama of the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court reiterated a stringent stance, stating that no suspects would be granted bail until the conclusion of the case.

Rambukwella’s appeal for bail underscores the legal battle ensuing from the allegations surrounding the importation of substandard immunoglobulin injections.
