Pasindu Hirushan Perera, a student of the Management Faculty of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, who was seriously ill due to a ragging incident was awarded a scholarship yesterday (08) for his further education.
Pasindu, a first year student of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, was severely injured on the night of March 5 during a party at the university premises when seniors had thrown a tractor tire at him causing serious head injuries. Pasindu, who had been receiving treatment at the neurology unit of the Colombo National Hospital for nearly three months, returned home last June.
The scholarship has been sponsored by Hemas. The Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris who was present at the occasion said that necessary steps will be taken to eradicate the newcomers from the university system.
