Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, has been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court following her arrest on allegations of selling surgical equipment to patients at excessively high prices.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali released Dr. Wijeratne on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 with two sureties of Rs. 5 million each, after reviewing submissions from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the defense.
As part of the bail conditions, Dr. Wijeratne has been barred from entering the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital premises and is prohibited from traveling abroad.
