The Attorney General hopes to get a comment from psychiatrists on the controversial speech made by former Minister Jonston Fernando on the May 09th at Temple Trees shortly before the mob attack on Gall Face peaceful protesters.
Testifying before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today Additional Solicitor General Ayesha Jinasena revealed that already the speech has been directed to two psychiatrists for their comments .
She made this statement when the magisterial inquiry into the attack was heard at the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The Additional Solicitor General, who presented a further investigation report on behalf of the CID, said that steps would be taken to name MP Johnston Fernando as a suspect in the case.
In addition, the Additional Solicitor General requested the Magistrate to name Mahinda Kahandagama, Dilith Fernando and Nishantha Jayasinghe as the other suspects in the case.
President’s Counsel Upul Jayasuriya addressing the magistrate on behalf of the aggrieved party stated that it is surprising that Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, who should have been named as the prime suspect in preventing the attack, has not yet been named as a suspect.
President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanne, representing the aggrieved party, also pointed out that although the attack could have been prevented by Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, he had not acted to prevent the incident despite the IGP’s written instructions the previous day.
