The Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Prevention Unit and the Katunayake Air Cargo Terminal Customs Office successfully intercepted a significant drug trafficking attempt. The spokesperson for Sri Lanka Customs revealed that the joint operation led to the seizure of 10.5 kg of heroin, valued at 27 crore rupees.
The illicit substance, originating from Lahore, Pakistan, was concealed within eight parcels cleverly packed among numerous bath towels. The interception occurred at the Katunayake air cargo terminal during routine customs checks.

The parcels, containing the concealed heroin, were addressed to the location of an import company owned by a businessman in the Tihariya area. Subsequently, during the process of clearing the goods, one individual and two clearing officers were apprehended by customs officials.
The suspects, along with the confiscated heroin, are now under the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
