Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando has instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Highways and the Project Director to expedite the construction of the Warakapola Bypass, which commenced construction work to ease traffic congestion between Warakapola and Ambepussa on the Colombo-Kandy main road.
It was further stated that the acquisition of lands for the Warakapola by road which is being constructed parallel to the Colombo – Kandy main road on the right-hand side has been completed and 98% of the compensation to be paid has been paid by now.
The road will be 2,350 meters long and 22.80 meters wide to ease traffic congestion on the Colombo-Kandy road between Warakapola and Ambepussa as there are no other alternative routes to bypass Warakapola. The specialty of this road is the construction of a 550-meter long flyover across this road. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 4,111.16 million.
Minister Johnston Fernando, Minister of Highways said that the objective of this by road project is to reduce the traffic congestion on the Colombo-Kandy road between Warakapola and Ambepussa and to facilitate traffic to other parts of the country, and to support the development of Warakapola.
