Gunaratnam Supina, a 25-year-old final year student of the Political Science Department at Jaffna University, passed away yesterday (24) due to an allergic reaction to medication received for dengue fever.
The student, hailing from Telipalai, Jaffna, was admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital after being diagnosed with dengue fever. However, an allergic reaction to medication prompted her transfer to Colombo for further examination, revealing complications in internal organs.
Despite extensive tests, the cause of death remains inconclusive, as the internal parts of her body were too deteriorated for a definitive determination. Jaffna Police are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the student’s demise.
The grieving family, shocked by the sudden loss, is cooperating with the police investigation. Further details will emerge following the completion of posthumous tests.
