Isipathana and Sirimavo Claim Titles at Sri Lankan Schools’ Rugby Tournament in the UK

The Sri Lankan schools’ old boys touch rugby tournament was held at Fullerian RFC, Conynges Drive in the United Kingdom yesterday (02).

The men’s championship was won by the Isipathana College Old Boys Rugby team, while the women’s division was won by the Sirimavo Balika Old Girls Rugby team.

Bringing new energy to the Sri Lankan expatriate community in the United Kingdom, the tournament was held throughout the day. In the men’s division, 20 teams participated, while 6 teams competed in the women’s division. The tournament was vibrant with live music, a DJ, and Sri Lankan cuisine. A significant number of Sri Lankan expatriates attended the event.

The Old Isipathana team and the Old Zahira team competed in the final. Isipathana won the championship by defeating Zahira 2-1. For the second place, the Zahira team competed against the Wesley team, and by beating Wesley 3-2, Zahira secured the second place.

The Royal College team and the St. Anthony’s College team competed for the second runner-up position. St. Anthony’s team was able to beat Royal 3-1 to secure the win.

Ananda College and Kingswood College competed for the third runner-up spot, with Ananda College winning the game 2-1. In the women’s division, Sirimavo balika old girls were able to win the championship by beating Vishaka College.
