Iranian Ambassador Dr. Alireza Delkhosh reiterated today that the Strait of Hormuz is not closed, and remains open to all countries except those considered hostile.
He stated that if the United States withdraws from the Hormuz region, tensions would ease and the current issues would be resolved.
If countries request assistance, Iran is ready to provide security

Addressing a press conference at the Sri Lankan Embassy office, the envoy said that although the Strait of Hormuz has been declared a war zone, it is still accessible to vessels from friendly countries.
He emphasized that Iran is prepared to ensure the safe passage of ships.
“If countries request assistance, Iran is ready to provide security for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. We do not charge for this service. Unlike the United States, Iran has been responsible for the security of Hormuz for more than 100 years. All countries are witnesses to this,” he said.
The Ambassador noted that the main issue lies with the United States.
“If the United States withdraws from the Strait of Hormuz, there will be no problem,” he added.
Responding to a question from a journalist, he acknowledged that many vessels are currently waiting for passage through the strait.
This area is now a war zone
“We are not happy about the current situation. This area is now a war zone, and there are security concerns for vessels. There is a risk that attacks could be carried out under false flags and blamed on Iran,” he said.
He also referred to a recent incident, claiming that an attack on a hotel in Baghdad was initially blamed on Iran, but later attributed to a US military base in Bahrain.
The Ambassador stressed that Iran can only guarantee the safety of vessels under its own security arrangements.
“Otherwise, we cannot take responsibility,” he said.
Dr. Delkhosh further stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran acts in accordance with international conventions, including during times of conflict.
He warned that Iran would target military bases of its enemies in host countries if necessary, in line with international law.
“Iran has already informed all parties that any military base used against us will be considered a legitimate target. This does not violate the sovereignty of neighbouring countries,” he said.
He also urged countries not to support the United States and Israel.
“Please do not be complicit with US and Israeli actions. There have been violations of international law,” he said, referring to past incidents involving attacks on Iranian assets.
