The Director of Ridgeway Arya Children’s Hospital has confirmed that a thorough investigation has been launched concerning the death of a child who underwent kidney surgery. The child had a congenital kidney condition, and prior to the operation, a scan was conducted in the operating room, which revealed a problematic situation with one of the kidneys.
Upon examining the situation, expert doctors determined that the affected kidney needed immediate removal. During the surgery, it was discovered that the other kidney was also attached to the problematic one. Despite the surgical intervention, the child passed away in the hospital’s intensive care unit while plans were being made for a kidney transplant.
Dr. Santhush Senapati, the Deputy Director of the hospital and head of the inspection committee, stated that the specialist who performed the surgery is currently abroad for training. However, they are actively seeking answers through virtual means such as Zoom technology.
The investigation’s findings will be promptly reported to the Ministry of Health to ensure transparency and address any concerns related to the procedures. The parents of the deceased child have stated that one of the child’s kidneys was functioning at only 9 percent, and removing it was recommended by the expert doctor to protect the other functioning kidney, which was operating at 96 percent capacity.
