The Wakare Police have launched an investigation against Saliya Wickramasooriya, Chairman of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, following a shooting incident.
According to police sources, the incident happened yesterday (17th) when Mr. Wickramasooriya was entering land owned by his family in Kadiraweli. The chairman and his wife went to Vakare Kadiraweli to reallocate a 12-acre plot owned by his wife and mark its boundaries.
A team sent by the chairman had prepared a road to the land using machinery. However, several local farmers who cultivated land next to the property protested. During an argument, Mr. Wickramasooriya allegedly pulled out his licensed firearm and fired it.
Residents reported the incident to the Wakare Police, who are continuing their investigation.
