An inmate, identified as a 32-year-old resident of Udawalawa with a history of 13 pending cases related to drug trafficking and extortion, has reportedly vandalized 23 CCTV cameras in the Bussa High Security Prison.
The detainee, believed to be a member of the underworld, carried out the destruction when taken outside the cell for sunlight and ventilation. The complaint lodged with Rathgama police outlines the intentional destruction of both interior and exterior CCTV cameras, prompting further investigation.
The motive behind the destruction of the CCTV cameras remains unclear at this stage. The inmate, previously held in Agunukolapalassa Prison and transferred to Bussa High Security Prison due to violent behavior, is now subject to legal proceedings.
Rathgama police are actively pursuing the case, armed with a court order to obtain statements from the involved individual.
