A high-level business delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has proposed that Sri Lanka prioritize wedding tourism to capitalize on the growing Indian market for destination weddings.

During their recent visit to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the delegation emphasized Sri Lanka’s pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and rich cultural appeal. They suggested creating tailored wedding packages and launching targeted marketing campaigns in India to position the island as a top wedding destination.

Facilitated by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, the visit aimed to strengthen the collaboration between the two Chambers and boost trade and investment ties between India and Sri Lanka. SGCCI extended an invitation to Sri Lankan businesses to participate in the Global Village event, scheduled for January in Surat, Southern Gujarat. This event will provide an excellent platform for Sri Lankan exporters to showcase products like tea, spices, fruits, and agro-goods to a diverse Indian audience.

The delegation highlighted Southern Gujarat’s expertise in key industries such as textiles, diamonds, yarn, and agriculture. They expressed keen interest in forming joint ventures and collaborations with Sri Lankan companies, focusing on areas like technological exchanges, shared expertise, and improved market access.

Other potential areas for collaboration included leveraging Gujarat’s advanced textile manufacturing capabilities, partnering in gem processing and trading, and expanding the export of Sri Lankan agro-products to Gujarat.

The visit follows an MOU signed earlier this year between the two Chambers, which has paved the way for closer cooperation on trade, investment, and industry-specific initiatives, opening up new opportunities for businesses in both regions.
